Laws of War

War on Syria Would be Illegal under International Law

None of the countries proposing the use of force against Syria can make any claim that Syria has attacked them, or that they are under imminent threat of attack. International treaties outlawing chemical weapons and prohibiting their use provide no special exception for such ad hoc use of military force. To the contrary, the Chemical Weapons Convention, the most comprehensive instrument concerning chemical weapons, provides for investigation of alleged violations by specialist bodies constituted by the Convention and recourse to the United Nations to authorize any use of force.

Bradley Manning and the Gangster State

If we actually had a functioning judicial system and an independent press, Manning would have been a witness for the prosecution against the war criminals he helped expose. He would not have been headed, bound and shackled, to the military prison at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. His testimony would have ensured that those who waged illegal war, tortured, lied to the public, monitored our electronic communications and ordered the gunning down of unarmed civilians in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Yemen were sent to Fort Leavenworth’s cells. If we had a functioning judiciary the hundreds of rapes and murders Manning made public would be investigated.

Two Weddings and a Funeral

International law, embodied in treaties signed between the nations of the world in good faith, must be regarded neither as an inconvenience nor something to be twisted using weasel reasoning. Any legal ‘ambiguity’, seized upon by the US and NATO for their own strategic goals, is an enormous threat to world security. This faux-perceived ambiguity must be urgently addressed, and any nation which regards itself as moral must stand up to this campaign of mass murder disguised as warfare. There can only be one answer to the murder of children.

WHO Is Delaying Release of Iraqi Birth Defect Data?

Doctors have been crying out for help since at least 2010, when the BBC’s John Simpson was handed a photograph of a baby born in Fallujah with two heads. Women there were being told to stop getting pregnant. A 2010 study published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health declared that some kind of congenital malformation was found in 15 percent of all births in Fallujah – heart defects being the most common, followed by neural tube defects.

Screaming in Bradley Manning’s Trial

I don’t blame Bradley Manning for apologizing for his actions and effectively begging for the court’s mercy. He’s on trial in a system rigged against him. The commander in chief declared him guilty long ago. He’s been convicted. The judge has been offered a promotion. The prosecution has been given a playing field slanted steeply in its favor. Why should Manning not follow the only advice anyone’s ever given him and seek to minimize his sentence?

Fresh Evidence of CIA Drone Strikes on Rescuers

A field investigation by the Bureau of Investigative Journalism in Pakistan’s tribal areas appears to confirm that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) last year briefly revived the controversial tactic of deliberately targeting rescuers at the scene of a previous drone strike. The tactic has previously been labelled a possible war crime by two UN investigators.

NBC Misreports Collateral Murder Video

Miklasziewski apparently knows who died, because he described that video this way:

In a pretrial statement to the court, Manning admitted he leaked this classified video of an Apache helicopter attack in Iraq that killed a number of insurgents and two innocent civilians.

But Manning did not describe the video as an attack on “insurgents,” because that is not what the video shows.

Russia hands over chemical
attack evidence to UN

Russia on Tuesday handed over evidence to the United Nations indicating Syrian rebels used sarin gas in an attack in March, its UN envoy said by Agence France-Presse Ambassador Vitaly Churkin said Russian experts had been to the scene of the attack at Khan al-Assal near Aleppo and gathered firsthand evidence. The Russian action risks reigniting an international dispute over […]

Libya: Race, Empire, and the Invention of Humanitarian Emergency

Based on Prof. Maximilian Forte latest book, “Slouching Towards Sirte: NATO’s War On Libya and Africa” (Baraka Books, Montreal, 2012), and nearly two years of extensive documentary research, this film places the 2011 US/NATO war in Libya in a more meaningful context than that of a war to “protect civilians” driven by the urgent need to “save Benghazi”. Instead it […]

Coalition Forces Used Chemical and Biological Weapons in Iraq

As well as Depleted Uranium, we’re also seeing reports of chemical and biological weapons having been used by coalition forces in Iraq by BSN Editor How cruelly ironic that it was our leaders claims that the Iraqi government possessed these types of weapons with a capability to attack UK interests within 45 minutes that was sold as the primary reason […]
