Mercenaries and Private Security Companies on Contract with the UN

Former Chairperson of the UN Working Group on the use of mercenaries, José L. Gómez del Prado, explains how private military and security companies have created an association to counter the regulations called for by his working group.

The association called The International Code of Conduct for Private Security Service Providers (ICoC, http://www.icoc-psp.org/About_ICoC.html) now seeks legitimacy with the UN despite having a record of human rights violations.

Shortly before the official launch of the ICoC, the UN will be discussing the hiring of private military and security companies, in other words mercenaries.
