Libya And The End Of Western Illusions By Thierry Meyssan
Five months into the bombing campaign, it is no longer possible to believe the initial official version of the events and the massacres attributed to the "Gaddafi regime". Moreover, it is now essential to take into account Libya’s legal and diplomatic rebuttal, highlighting the crimes against peace committed by television propaganda, the war crimes perpetrated by NATO military forces, and the crimes against humanity sponsored by political leaders of the Atlantic Alliance.
Journalists who engage in war propaganda must be held accountable By Thierry Meyssan
The war propaganda has entered a new phase, involving the coordinated action of satellite TV stations. CNN, France24, the BBC and Al Jazeera have become instruments of disinformation used to demonise governments and justify the armed aggressions. These practices are illegal under international law and the impunity of the perpetrators must be stopped.
Corporate Media’s Capital Crimes Against Libya – and Humanity By Glen Ford
Every day, in Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Congo and now Libya, the U.S. corporate media commit crimes against humanity that are equal to the crimes perpetrated by the United States government. As facilitators of those crimes – through ceaseless propaganda, lies and demonisation of those targeted by the United States – the corporate media are just as guilty of the grossest human rights violations as the government they serve. The New York Times and the rest of the howling corporate propagandists that call themselves journalists behave no differently than the German newspaper publisher Julius Streicher, who was hanged for his media crimes against humanity in October, 1946.
“Next the statesmen will invent cheap lies, putting the blame upon the nation that is attacked, and every man will be glad of those conscience-soothing falsities, and will diligently study them, and refuse to examine any refutations of them; and thus he will by and by convince himself that the war is just, and will thank God for the better sleep he enjoys after this process of grotesque self-deception.”
- Mark Twain, The Mysterious Stranger, 1916, Ch.9
“Propaganda is designed to manipulate the emotions and instincts of the general public. Relying on such low level emotions as hate and fear, it uses incomplete or incorrect information while avoiding logical arguments. It repeats ideas and catchphrases, often uses scapegoats, and relates itself with the high ideals. It tries to curtail individual thought, denounces or suppresses contradictory facts, and acts as a distraction. Mass communication is necessary for the success of propaganda.”
Commenting on the recent attack on Zlitan, a NATO spokesperson said “no evidence so far that has reached us that could suggest there have been civilian casualties.”
NATO planes involved in this raid were RAF Tornados which flew the 3,000 miles of this mission from RAF Marham in Norfolk supported by VC10 and TriStar aerial refuelling tankers attacking what they describe as a “staging post” in Zlitan and killing at least 33 children.

Sunday Times Once Again Replete with Lies and Propaganda Mike Raddie 21 Aug 2011
Today’s Sunday Times is once again awash with war propaganda. The headline reads ‘Rebels advance on Gadiffi’s doorstep’. It goes on to report that gunfire and explosions were heard in the Libyan capital, Tripoli this morning, insinuating that the capital was about to fall to NATO/rebel alliance. This is utter nonsense. There was no advance; rebel (or rats as they are known in Libya) sleeper cells hiding in the capital were out during the night and after a brief gun battle, they were rounded up by government forces and arrested. The gunfire was celebratory (as reported by Lizzie Phelan) when residents realised it was safe to return to the streets. The explosions were noise bombs dropped by NATO warplanes in their ongoing psychological warfare program against the civilians of Libya and via the mainstream media, against peace loving peoples the world over.
My blood boils when I see western media engaging and getting away with this kind of ‘journalism’ - frantically trying to fit the overwhelming contradictory evidence to their preconceived narrative. In fact, I’ve had enough of it! This week I intend to begin legal proceedings - I am planning on bringing a private criminal prosecution against the Times’ journalist, editor and publisher on charges of crimes against peace. See “War Propaganda: A Serious Crime Against Humanity” by Yuri Bobrakov. So, who’s with me?
A Closer Look on Qatari Hollywood and the Mercenary Invasion of Tripoli by Quoriana 22 Aug 2011
It’s no longer a surprise that a media war is being waged against Gaddafi and Libya. In March, all news were breaking and highly contradictive towards each other. A month passed until Libyans finally learned to disprove the lies, but while the news themselves grew relatively neutral, a new wave of misinformation was being prepared.
It arose in global media approximately on 15th of August, when a Saudi Arabia newspaper Asharq Alawsat told that Gaddafi is allegedly ill and ready to leave the country. Saudis, mortal enemies of Muammar Gaddafi, were, of course, such a reliable source, that all other papers followed. Read more...
The mainstream media have been using footage filmed in a ‘mock Tripoli’ movie set intended to look like areas of Tripoli under control of rebel forces. News you will never hear from BBC or CNN: your taxes spent on mercenaries that kill women and children in a country that never posed a threat to Europe or USA.
This is an exercise in mass brainwashing by Webster Tarpley 25 Aug 2011
"Everything you see from here is a big lie. People have got to bear this in mind. It's all fake. There's a fake, Libyan town that's been built in Qatar, and they can stage a Hollywood-style massacre in such a place, and say, 'Now, it's enough, Gaddafi has gone too far."
Dr. Tarpley says: "This is an exercise in mass brainwashing. This is an attempt to brainwash world public opinion on the bases of fake dispatches from the BBC, Al-Jazeerah, and CNN...The first and most important thing is, don't fall into the trap of believing their story. Their story is largely manufactured." Read more...
Because the beeb are so relentless in their propaganda, I’ve decided to give them their own page. Please click here to see more.
Human Rights Watch: Another imperialist tool to mislead public opinion by MKERone 2 Oct 2011
Most of the people think that Human Rights Watch (HWR) is a non-profit, 100% independent organisation. They also believe that its aim is to defend and protect HUMANS. We mostly hear about this organisation in war times. But the name of this organisation is misleading! "Human Rights Watch." Really?
A brief recap on HRW's recent inglorious background
Their mission statement says the following: "Human Rights Watch is dedicated to protecting the human rights of people around the world. We stand with victims and activists to prevent discrimination, to uphold political freedom, to protect people from inhumane conduct in wartime, and to bring offenders to justice. We investigate and expose human rights violations and hold abusers accountable. We challenge governments and those who hold power to end abusive practices and respect international human rights law. We enlist the public and the international community to support the cause of human rights for all."

Britain’s Own Pravda-Style Propaganda: Part 1 by Media Lens 18 Oct 2011
Ten Years Of ‘Involvement’ In Afghanistan
Imagine Britain had been invaded and occupied by armed forces from another region of the world with China, for example, as a significant ‘partner’ in the ‘coalition’. Imagine tens of thousands of Britons had been killed, and millions had fled as refugees. This is how the Chinese state broadcaster might report the invasion ten years hence:
'It’s ten years this week since Chinese forces first became involved in Britain, and more than five years since they assumed responsibility for south-east England. So what's been achieved in that time?'
These were the actual words that presenter Fiona Bruce used on the flagship BBC News at Ten:
'It’s ten years this week since British forces first became involved in Afghanistan, and more than five years since they assumed responsibility for Helmand province. So what's been achieved in that time?' (BBC One, October 4, 2011, italics added)
This is BBC 'impartiality' in action. These words were a prelude to a piece by Paul Wood, the BBC’s Afghanistan correspondent, that was a model of Pravda-style propaganda which we will examine further in Part 2.
Meanwhile, in a shameful editorial, the Guardian burnished its credentials as a hand-wringing liberal supporter of the war. Readers were told that the war that had been ‘unavoidable’ and that ‘we’ had then stayed in the country ‘through all the twists and turns imposed by events’, struggling with ‘the incoherence of our own changing policies, for reasons which have become less and less understandable.’ The paper sighed that ‘an anniversary of this kind has a sobering effect’ in that ‘we hugely overestimated the capacity of our military, diplomatic and intelligence establishments to change other societies.’ This ‘hubris was most evident in the United States, but it was not absent in Britain.’ Read more...

The Statistics of Western State Terror
Ten years later, the violent consequences of the invasion of Afghanistan are truly appalling. A Stop the War video, ‘What is the true cost of the Afghanistan war?’ details some of the appalling statistics:
9,300 Afghan civilians have been killed by International Security Assistance Forces, i.e. Nato.
380 British soldiers are dead.
£18 billion of UK taxpayer’s money has been spent.
The war is costing Britain £12 million per day. The same amount could employ 100,000 nurses (at £21,000 annually) and 150,000 care workers (£15,000).
A study by Brown University in the United States estimates an unimaginable combined sum of up to $4 trillion to fight the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
In Afghanistan, ‘cautious estimates’ of the total civilian death toll exceed 40,000 people, of which:
25.6% killed by ISAF forces.
15.4% killed by anti-government forces.
60% killed by poverty, disease and starvation.
In particular, the horrendous killing of Afghan children in US air strikes and night raids gets scant coverage, if any, before the Western media swiftly looks away.
There are now three million refugees from Afghanistan: 30.7% of the world’s total, exceeding the figures of 16.9% from Iraq, 7.7% from Somalia and 4.8% from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
74% of the British public want the occupation to end either ‘immediately’ or ‘soon’.
Very little of this reality made it into the largely uncritical coverage of the ten-year anniversary of the West’s aggression against Afghanistan. Read more...
